Audio and video material has now become indispensable in our day-to-day business. However, transcription or translation of the spoken word is often required in order to utilise it in the best possible way. It is essential to use transcription ranging from image films, product declarations and e-learning courses to expert interviews and group discussions to better clarify the content. There are different procedures for this, which differ in the way they are transcribed. For instance, interviews are often fully transcribed so that even filler words can be retained, since they can be crucial for analytical purposes. With film & TV, the main decision is whether the viewer understands the audio language or not. It is also important for the text and video to be as well synchronised as possible so that the text can be read whilst watching the video without a great deal of effort. Transcription (edited & verbatim)

• Exact word-for-word transcription with/without filler words, repetitions and linguistic adaptation and with/without capturing non-verbal utterances and intonations.

Subtitling & closed captions

• Text descriptions for film & TV are either translated (subtitles) and adapted to the context or transcribed literally including surrounding noises (closed captions).
